The remains of Housesteads, the most complete extant Roman Fort, lies along Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland, England. 800 Roman soldiers were garrisoned here; and a small community existed outside the walls to supply their needs. (We all know what those were). The granaries (upper left) supported a raised floor where food was safely stored from nasty scurrying vermin. The latrines still exist as well, although you aren’t meant to use them, I imagine. They are some of the MOST ANTIQUE TOILETS in Britain! Oh yes they are.
